Public Ministry of Rio creates center to victims of violence

The Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ) will have a center to assist victims of violence or natural disasters and their families. The Victims’ Center (NAV) starts operating this Monday (5), at the institution’s headquarters, in the center of the city. The nucleus will have the function of protecting and guaranteeing humanized to victims of crimes, infractions, natural disasters, public calamities and serious violations of human rights. Among the functions of the NAV are those of facilitating access to information on legal proceedings, directing the person to assistance services (medical, psychosocial and legal) and programs for the protection of victims and witnesses. When necessary, the nucleus will also seek measures to safeguard the full rights of victims and their families. “It is a specialized service, with a differentiated listening, where the person will feel welcomed, will feel the necessary so that they know their rights and know that they can have psychological ”, explains the coordinator of the Promotion of Victims’ Rights of the MPRJ, attorney Patrícia Glioche. According to Patrícia, many women victims of violence have already approached the Public Prosecutor’s Office in search of shelter, and the NAV will now provide this service. Victims can be forwarded to the nucleus through the MPRJ ombudsman. The idea is for the Public Prosecutor’s Office to train other civil servants so that similar small centers are created in other regions of the state of Rio.
